Nike helps Design Airplane Interior focused on Athlete-Specific Needs

SUMMARY

The article read is entitled “Nike helps Design Airplane Interior focused on Athlete-Specific Needs” is written by Kyle Newport, a featured columnist for the Bleach Report on September 9, 2014. Nike has helped to design a plane that makes travelling across the coast for athletes a bit easier as travelling can be tough on the body. The plane cabin is specifically designed for a sports team which will have fewer seats, sleep bunkers, and overall bringing the training room on the go. Nike hopes to help to eliminate the negative aspects of being 40,000 feet in the air. Below are a few pictures of what the interior place may look like once Nike and plane manufacture Teague have finished their designs. However, the aircraft is just a concept at the moment.

OPINION

I find that since Nike’s brand is focused on sports, it only makes sense for them to help with this initiative since they have already accumulated large amounts of research on athletes in order to better understand their needs. I think the idea of this plane is cool and will be beneficial to athletes. Based on the pictures viewed, it seems quite comfortable. If the concept does become a reality, it will help teams be more relaxed and hopefully less jet-lagged when flying across the coast. If this is the case, teams will do much better, not only increasing revenue for themselves but for Nike as well. Thus, Nike’s participation in this matter will be very fruitful for them.

QUESTIONS/FEEDBACK

1)    What are your thoughts on this aircraft? Is it a good idea or a bad one?
2)    If you could add any one thing into this plane that is athlete based, what would it be? (Your answer can be anything from a water jug to blankets)

  1. 1. It is a grand initiative, and there is a good reason behind it. Specifically, teams that play on the west coast in national leagues (NHL, NBA, NFL) that play for one night and leave town, it has been proven those athletes have a harder time recuperating before the next game because the extensive travel and time zone shifting. It is almost imperative that plane like this be designed for the future of sports and the health of the multi-million dollar athletes these sports support.

    2. Possible a dark room to aide the sleep of some athletes. Complete darkness and silence and a full rest is necessary to a wholly reparative sleep cycle. Athletes need this proper down time to excel at the sport they are playing.

    1. Thanks for your comment. It's definitely something to think about and you're right, an athletes game is normally off and I would imagine it is hard to recuperate.

  2. 1. I think this aircraft designed for athletes is a great idea because it helps them relax and recouperate after games, or just travelling. I feel that in the future many teams in many leagues will eventually purchase this aircraft for their team with positive results.
    2. I think a massage table should be added to this aircraft so that athletes can relax, get a massage and help restore the condition of their muscles in between games.

  3. I think that this air craft is a good idea since it is designed to keep athletes in top performance shape. Since they do travel a lot, it only makes sense to provide comfort to them on an aircraft, where they spend most of their time anyway. If I could add something it would be a personal masseuse on the plane at all times. This way if anything is wrong with the athletes body, the problem can be solved immediately
